Nestled deep within the forest, Danby Lodge is one of the original Forest of Dean Lodges, built by King Charles II to protect the Oak trees in the Forest of Dean. There is still a King Charles Oak in the Danby Lodge garden. Danby offers a great escape from everyday life to rejuvenate and experience the wonders of nature.

Each room has been individually furnished and decorated, retaining many original features and offering an abundance of character.

Danby Lodge is surrounded by dry stone walls and fences with electric gates at the entrance for privacy and security. The grounds contain a heated outdoor swimming pool, mature gardens, wild areas and private woodland, a wild pond and a carp pond. It offers many lovely forest walks from the doorstep and convenient access to several activities nearby.


There are several well-known pubs and restaurants around the area where you are guaranteed a warm welcome with wonderful gastronomic delights and beverages to suit all tastes.

However, If you don’t feel like leaving Danby Lodge, you can take advantage of our grand kitchen equipped with state of the art appliances and prepare sumptuous meats with ease.

Danby Lodge is the ideal venue from which to explore the wonderful Forest of Dean. It is set just tucked away in the woods very close to the scenic route and many of the local attractions. From climbing to canoeing in the Wye Valley, a gentle stroll around Mallards Pike Lake, or a walk up to Symonds Yat Rock; and for the artists – a fun and indulging time at Mary Rose Young pottery to spark your creativity and imagination.
