Danby Lodge – Frequently Asked Questions
Check-in is from 4 pm. We try to accommodate early check-ins where we can, but we won’t know until nearer the time of your stay. If previous guests are checking out the same day that you arrive, then we wouldn’t be able to offer an early check-in because we need all the available time to prepare the house for 4 pm. Please check back with us a week before your stay and we should be able to confirm what we can offer.
You’ll get a text message on the morning of your arrival with the pin code for the key safe which is by the front door.
Our minimum stay is set to three nights because we have certain fixed costs such as cleaning. We occasionally offer a midweek two-night stay and out of season or very last minute booking promo.
The pool is available and heated during the summer months, depending on the weather. We don’t normally heat the pool if the ambient temperature falls below 20C and we need to close the pool for winter once the leaves start falling, otherwise, it just becomes clogged with leaves.
There are two cots and one high chair at the house.
The property has 6 bedrooms and sleeps 14 people. The 7th room has a sofa bed that will be made up, this room is the library and the only access to the ‘Priest hole bedroom’, perfect for children to stay in.
We have two cafetieres in the kitchen so ground coffee is needed; plus a small supply of instant coffee.
There is an outdoor dining area with a table and benches to seat approximately 8 guests. There are also other garden chairs available.
We do have a Webber gas BBQ.

There’s Go Ape and Puzzle Wood nearby, which was used for Harry Potter filming. For Mountain biking, the family cycle trail is suitable for all abilities. The Cannock chase cycle centre has a variety of mountain bike runs for more experienced mountain bikers. For less active days out, there’s Tintern Abbey. Symonds Yat is a nice walk, and Ross on Wye is a lovely town to visit.
Yes, there is wi-fi. Reliable internet has been a constant challenge in such a remote location. We’ve now installed Elon Musk’s Starlink internet.
Yes, we are happy to welcome dogs to the house. The garden is fully enclosed apart from some gates where small dogs could get out if they tried, but we regularly have dogs on-site and we’ve never lost one yet.
We only ask that you do not allow him/her upstairs or in carpeted areas in the house nor sit on the furniture. There is loads of space to run around on the grounds and surely your pup will love exploring the forest around the house.
Yes, we have a 32A commando socket, you will need the correct cable to plug into it.
